Week Two

  Asterios Polyp is has really good character design and by that I mean. Just at getting a first glance at the characters. You can already get a good Idea of who they are and this is even exemplified with the fact that in there speech bubble's font is fitting to there character. Just look at our main character Asterios. Asterios is drawn with a lot more with straight lines and not so loosely like Hana. In a way they kind complete each other when I try to think of it in that way. Where you should have a strong scene in structure like Asterios but you shouldn't be afraid to get a little loosey goosey with it and try something new. like we were talking about in class they complete each other. It's not every panel they are drawn to this extreme but this one really tries to show my point about them.
  I liked this comic a lot it really shows off the kind of style or story telling that you could only get away with in graphic novel. I think you could get away some of these kind of things in an animated film but I think it would lose something with out the speech bubbles or even just not having the panels.

Week One: Your Position in the Mediascape

1.  What is the time frame of this vignette?

Kinda of following this woman as she is taking these photos. In I'm guessing a mid 2000's because they talk about her getting her parents car that's a early 2000's model because it was like 4 years old now and they want some new wheels.

2. What does the text imply about photography and about photographers?

That she's a real "Go-Getter" and shes doing that by taking advantage of these low class people and take photos of them. The writer is not a fan of this lady and also this girl is middle class or higher.

3. What is the writer’s attitude toward the woman? What words and phrases suggest that attitude?

Pretty angry, being sarcastic towards the girl, and also just being very judgemental toward the girl. Talking about her getting everything in life handed to her or describing her as being to scared to get out of her car to take the photo.

4. How does the writer’s repetition of the term “Go-Getters” function in the text?

The "Go-Getter" sign is at some sort of supermarket in the hood and how it's so ironic being located an low class neighbor hood. Where most people are trying to get by and where the harsh realists of the world are hitting the people the hardest unfortunately.

5. How does the final sentence build on observed details?

It judges the women for taking advantage of the low class people and how famous she going to be for have such an astute observations and how she's going to opening art gallery. The writer is of course  being sarcastic...

6. What new idea or surprise emerges in the final sentence?

That his writing really thinks low of this person but also realizes that by writing this he is also a hypocrite I suppose. I don't really one 100% percent agree that last part that you were talking about in class. I understood where the thought is coming from but I think we need someone to be the whistle blower to BS some times. Just because this person is "exploiting" this women's wrong doing by calling it out doesn't mean to me that he should be hounded for his actions as well. Maybe the tone of his write up could be less harsh but unless he's acting like an Alex Jones like figure. Your going to have a hard time convincing me that his man is also a hypocrite for publishing this. Think he's just calling like he sees it.

Anyway, I feel like the kind work this lady is doing is kinda of in a grey area. Like with the recent hurricane some CNN reporter got blasted by some lady that didn't want to be interviewed anymore, but does that mean all reporting and broadcasting the hurricane is a bad thing? CNN is profiting off this hurricane and all there reporting of it. Does that mean CNN should be shamed for doing so as well?  I'm not to sure myself.

So what if these images inspire people to make a change and help the underclass? What if all of CNN broadcasting of the recent hurricane inspire other to lend a helping hand? I'm just saying is all. I don't really 100 percent agree with either things I'm writing about. I'm just raising the questions.

I feel like now a days we think in to much in black and white when I feel like a lot of the times the answer is usually never that simple.
